Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) Nuzhat Gul kick started three Days long District Wushu championship at Nelandrusu Indoor Hall, Bejbehara Anantnag.Around 800 players including boys and girls from different schools and clubs across district Anantnag are  participating in this championship  and will showcase their talent.

While speaking on the occasion, Gul in her speech said that providing platform to the youths towards the sports is the need of the hour as it will keep them (youths)  mentally and physically fit.She said youths of the remote areas needs exposure in  sports and emphasised on  nourishing youths of the  J&K UT in every village,tehsil and district level. In her speech she insisted upon youths for saying “No to Drugs” as it (sports) is the only weapon which can make the country and the J&K more progressive and more powerful  in the world.She on the occasion appealed to the  parents for bringing their girls into the sports, especially in wushu as the Wushu being the best in Self defence training. 

She on the occasion gave examples of Sadia Tariq, Munazah Gazi, both of whom have brought laurels for the country in general and for the J&K in particular at the International level.”J&K  has its own Sports Policy and the recent SO 12,which has brought the revolution in the UT (J&K) and all the players across J&K are very happy with this initiative taken by the LG Manoj Sinha,” She said. While emphasising on Sports she said sports plays the major role to keep a check on the drug menace as sportspersons as the true ambassadors of the society shall help in inspiring and motivating the younger generation and others to remain fit.

“Our youth are our future, they are the one to determine the outcome of our society and the country as whole and if their upbringing is ethical, moral and value based, our society shall be the better place to live in and shall play a vital role in carving the future of not only J&K but country as whole,” She said.She  added that J&K Sports Council is aiming at organising the mega events for all recognized games in district centers to break the mundane of remaining confined to one particular place and this event is a step in that direction.

 “All this was possible only due to some sports-friendly measures adopted by the government, like creating world-class infrastructure with all possible training learning facilities”, she added. She further stated that there are no second thought that the youth of J&K are immensely talented and they deserve more opportunities to display their talent and bringing events to district centers shall help in realising the dream of players waiting in wings.She said that apex sports body is always available for the handholding of athletes and help them realise their potential.

“This step is also aimed to ensure panchayat level participation of all blocks and to estimate the response and inclination of players to any particular game which shall help prepare the youth of the union territory of J&K for big events like the Asian Games and Olympics and World Championships,” she added.She said that J&K Sports Council has drawn a roadmap to produce athletes of a repute who can give their competitors a run for the money and we are duty-bound to serve our sports stars to the purpose.Gul on the occasion congratulated Wushu Association of J&K and District Anantnag Wushu Association for the promotion of Wushu game in far off areas.

On the occasion, District Secretary Anantnag Wushu Association Ajaz Hassan  welcomed secretary J&K Sports council along with office bearers at the venue. Ajaz Hassan also welcomed Sports officer Central  Nuzhat gazala, who was the guest of Honour on the occassion. Ajaz Hassan extented vote of thanks to J&K Sports council  and the Wushu Association of J&K for their immense support in holding such events. The 3-day long event which began here shall conclude on 15th of this month.
