With an aim to provide artisans, weavers and cooperative societies a “suitable marketing platform” to sell their genuine products directly to the buyers, the Department of Handicrafts & Handloom, Kashmir Wednesday kick-started a ten-day long exhibition at Boulevard Srinagar here.Keeping a good footfall of local and non-local tourists into the consideration, the exhibition witnessed good response of buyers on its first day.

An official told artisans, weavers and cooperative societies registered with the department have been provided space in the exhibition to sell their products to the customers without any third-party intervention.“During the first day of the exhibition more than 20 artisans were given space to erect their stalls and display their products before the customers”, an official said.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Director, Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir, Tariq Ahmad Zargar in presence of senior officials of the department and good number of artisans and visitors.Speaking at the occasion, the Director Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir expressed the exhibition will avoid third party mediation in between the buyer and seller and will help buyers to know the local handmade items.“The exhibition will give artisans, weavers and cooperative societies a suitable marketing platform to sell their genuine products directly to the buyers”, Zargar said.

He also said the exhibition will further give the tourists visiting Kashmir an opportunity to get a glimpse of the rich art and craft of Kashmir.He expressed this exhibition will appeal to the connoisseur and the consumer alike as our skilled artisans have been giving creative expression to their rich folklore through this medium for centuries.“The special attraction of the ongoing exhibition is the variety of craft products presenting the rich culture of the valley that are on the display and sale”, the Director added.

It is worthwhile to mention the 10-day exhibition will showcase the finest crafts from Kashmir including Pashmina, Kani and other crafts.Boulevard exhibition is the 8th physical exhibition of the year 2022 that has been organized by the Department of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir within and outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir this year.“The department is well aware of the fact that the inventory of the artisans has piled up due to pandemic and platforms like this will be provided to the artisans both within and outside J&K so as to sell their products”, the official added.
