Media Studies department of Government Degree College, Baramulla clinched the trophy of Casco Cricket tournament by defeating Media department of Central University by 3 runs in the final match.
According to an official, the tournament was organized by the Department of Media Studies, Skill and Research Centre in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Government Degree College Baramulla.
The tournament which started on June 29 and concluded on July 4 saw the participation of almost all the Media Departments from different universities and colleges of the valley.
In the final match, Media Studies GDC Baramulla won the toss and elected to bat first.
The GDC Barmulla team scored 105 runs in their allotted number of over. Dr Danish Nabi, HOD of the Department was the highest scorer with 25 runs and also bagged two wickets.
He was declared man of the match. Saqib Bashir, a Media student from GDC Baramulla was awarded the man of the tournament for his brilliant performance.
While expressing thoughts about the tournament, Professor Shahid Rasool, Dean Media Department at Central University said that the tournament has made students come out of the pandemic that lasted for years.
“It is a great initiative taken by Media Studies GDC Baramulla to bring Media students of the valley together,” he said, adding it creates team spirit and is a good media activity for students. It also helped students to socialize with different students.
Dr Danish Nabi, HOD Media Studies GDC Baramulla, extended gratitude to all participating teams.
He also thanked and appreciated his own team for their performance especially in the final.
Principal GDC Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Rather, appreciated Dr Danish Nabi for initiating the tournament and bringing the media departments together at a sport event.
“The students and staff not only played on the field but also exchanged ideas with each other, which is important for both the sides to grow” he added.
