Farheen Fayaz a student of class 12th Humanities at Delhi Public School Budgam has been conferred with the State Award for the Outstanding Sports Person on 15 July 2022 for which she was nominated on 26 January 2019.
As per a spokresman, she has been awarded in recognition of her contribution in the field of sports.
“The girl with an extraordinary sports talent is a Pencak Silat player who has played a series of State, National and International tournaments during her sports journey. She won many gold, silver and bronze medals and made not only the valley but her country proud,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention that she represented the country in the Junior World Pencak Silat Championship 2018 at Songkhla,Thailand where she secured a third rank in the world after winning a bronze medal for the country as a diploma of honour.
In the same year, in a National Championship 2018 held at Guwahati, she won a gold medal and then in the third Sate Pencak Silat Championship organised by Pencak Silat Association of J&K , she secured a gold medal, the spokesman added.
The spokesman said that the J&K State Sports Council recognised the remarkable sports spirit of the young girl and conferred her with gold medals in the series of competitions held from time to time.
“ After winning a silver medal in the third North India Pencak Silat Championship in 2018-19, Farheen registered herself for a gold medal in the first All India Inter Zonal Beach Pencak Silat Championship 2018-19.”
Farheen while speaking about her sports journey gives the credit of her success to her hard work, parents and of course to school that has always instilled all the confidence and opened new ventures to her.
The Pro VC DPS Budgam, Mumtazunnisa Soz and the Principal Shobhna Sirohi congratulated Farheen for the stellar show and wished her a successful sports career ahead.
They further stated that the school wishes that the students must touch the new horizons of success and for this purpose will keep on following the legacy of providing all the opportunities for the excellent growth of the students in all spheres of life, the spokesman added.
